The Minority’s Guide to Becoming a Doctor

December 1, 2018

If you are here, you are considering or have already decided to pursue a career as a physician. There are many roads to medicine; some bumpier than others. Our hope is that this website acts as your anchor in the storm when you need one. We’re rooting for your success and sharing in your triumphs.

The road is long and can feel daunting, but we’re here to tell you that you can do it. Med Like Me came into existence because there is a large group of diverse physicians who once felt as overwhelmed and uncertain as you do right now…but they pushed forward and made it happen. And they know that you can do it too – even if you’re not convinced of it just yet yourself.

Med Like Me is committed to providing you with the most up-to-date, accurate and helpful information we can assemble to help you on your journey. We are doing this because we believe that the field of healthcare needs big changes, and fresh thinking, innovate, diverse minds are the ones best suited for the task. Our sole goal is to help position you to succeed.

This guide assumes you don’t know the first thing about becoming a doctor. It assumes you did not dream of being a physician from the day you were born. It assumes you were not born into a family of physicians. It does not take for granted that you have friends who have been through the process, or that you even know what questions you should be asking.

It does assume, however, that you have what it takes to take this thing all the way. Because you do. So let’s do it — together.
